January, February & March 2011

Art has passed a milestone – we are officially, one year old. Having blown out the candles and made a wish, we are delighted to present to you, the second issue of the new Art Licks magazine.

As promised at the start, each issue will commission an artist to make a piece of work for the magazine. For Spring, artist collective They Are Here– Harun Morrison and Helen Walker, bring to us,The Thread of a Beaded Necklace: Part 1. Alongside this is an article from young curator Lily Hall, discussing the recent work ofThey Are Here.

Whilst art gets political with Jimmy Merris and Sassoon Gallery, there is a new piece of work from GANDT. We learn a lesson or two from the Institute of AR-SE and hear from the people behind reading room and project space Banner Repeater – address, Platform One, Hackney Downs Rail Station. VulpesVulpes make a move and artist Aaron Angell gives us a Roster; performance collective and monthly event, ArtEvict go back to the start whilst Naomi Pearce from The Woodmill compares then to now. Artist run space LimaZulu lay their cards on the table and Art Licks takes a Studio Snoop with Sam Austen at The Sunday Painter.

We hope that you will continue to support this magazine. With art turning heads in politics at the moment, it is the right time for a new consciousness.
