Catlin Art Prize 2015

The Catlin Art Prize presents new work by eight of the most exciting art graduates in the UK one year on from art school.

at Londonewcastle Project Space

Now in its ninth year, the Catlin Art Prize is a curated exhibition. The eight finalists, all in their first year following graduation, were selected from The Catlin Guide 2015 for their potential to make a significant mark on the art world over the next decade. Each was commissioned to develop a new body of work for the exhibition, and received mentoring and production assistance to encourage ambitious new projects.

This year’s finalists are: Jon Baker (Chelsea College of Arts), Felicity Hammond (Royal College of Art), Oliver Hickmet (City & Guilds of London Art School), Nicholas William Johnson (Royal College of Art), Paul Schneider (Royal Academy of Arts), Lexi Strauss (Royal College of Art), Dominic Watson (The Glasgow School of Art) and Zhu Tian (Royal College of Art).

The winner of the Catlin Art Prize 2015 will receive the award of £5000 at a private ceremony on the evening of Wednesday 13th May.

This year’s judges are: Aaron Cezar, founding Director of Delfina Foundation; Charlotte Schepke, founder of London art space Large Glass and previously director of the Frith Street Gallery; and George Vasey, independent writer and curator of the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art.

The public will also have their say, and may vote for their favourite artist via ballot boxes at the Londonewcastle Project Space up until 1pm on Wednesday 13th May. The winner of the Visitor Vote will receive £2000.

Curator of the Catlin Art Prize Justin Hammond comments:

I'm delighted to work with these artists at such a vital point in their careers and I'm confident they've produced a tremendously cohesive exhibition. It's no surprise that issues surrounding urban renewal and gentrification dominate this year, as many of the artists were forced to leave their studios at short notice and find alternative spaces in the months leading up to the show.’

As title sponsors of the Catlin Art Prize, Catlin – one of the world’s leading insurers of fine art – continues to help realise the ambitions of promising new artists.
