Call for Artists: MOMENTUM Residency Berlin

The MOMENTUM Residency Programme is geared to further the inquiry into the nature and relevance of time-based art.
at

Studio 4, Chisenhale Art Place

Mariannenplatz 2, Raum 134, Kreuzberg Berlin 10997

Open Call: From November 2017 – December 2018

By inviting artists who work in a variety of time-based media, MOMENTUM aims to facilitate the discussion on and exploration of continuously shifting notions regarding the significance of time-based art. In this sense, the MOMENTUM Residency is a space for intrinsically artistic research, now unconstrained by the type of parameters and regulations that academia tends to transpose onto the artistic field. Its focus is thereby not extra-academic, but rather to bridge what MOMENTUM considers a conflictive and unfortunate gap between theory and practice.

In Berlin, the ‘City of Artists’, MOMENTUM has an extensive network of contacts in both the visual arts and the broader cultural field and gladly takes an active role in connecting people that mutually benefit from collaborations and exchange. As such, it prides itself as an advocate of ‘cultural promiscuity’, wherein the most fertile ground is laid by maintaining relations with a varied, rich gamut of partners.

Besides an online platform that makes both its Collection and AiR-archive accessible to the public, MOMENTUM aims to pursue collaborations with universities, art academies and other cultural and academic institutions in order to maintain lively exchange and discussion.

Duration of residency
The duration spans from 1 – 3 months. However a 3-month stay is encouraged, as then the artist has the possibility to really develop his/her practice and work. A minimum of 1-month stay is required.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Application is open to all artists, concerned with the field of time-based art. Disciplines can span over video art, installation, painting, sculpture, photography and performance.

Accommodation

The artists will stay in a spacious typical Berlin apartment. Each artist has a private room. The apartment is located very central in a flourishing area of Berlin and the neighborhood offers everything (supermarket/art supply store/cafes/restaurants/bank/post office etc.) in short distance. The apartment offers a library on visual arts, film making, new media and classic to modern literature.

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a research residency MOMENTUM does not expect the artist to produce a work or an exhibition during the stay, however if the artist wishes to do so, material and production costs have to be covered by the artist.

Application information
To apply please send the completed application form, your CV and as well as additional material, such as images or links to video works to sara@momentumworldwide.org. More information:    https://momentumworldwide.org/momentum-artist-residencies/berlin-residency/
